[After a productive day out in the fields earning money, Roy heads back down the streets of Mac Anu, his arms laden with sacks and piled high with -- groceries. Did he really expect to eat them all by himself? Of course not -- he had guild members to feed!]

[But the fighter Edge Punisher had a faint frown on his face as he made his way carefully to the @Home...]

I hope someone can figure out some way to cook all of this...

As long as you stand to the side, it should be fine.

[Honestly, it wouldn't bother her too much, and having someone else around who can cook seems like it would be a good idea.]

It can't hurt to try! Unless the cooking somehow summons fire elementals, which would really not even surprise me at this point.

Fire elementals. It's a bit of a stretch, but on the one hand, cooking does relate to fire, or at least heat, and on the other, that's just sadistic enough to happen. Or insane enough to get a cheap gag out of.

...If we're going to have to fight every time we cook, it might just be more convenient to buy our meals.

Oh, if it was going to happen, it wouldn't happen every time. Just one time to get us jumpy and paranoid.

[Roy has a cynical view of the world, it's true. But there IS a reason.]

Let's hope not. I don't want to have to worry about fighting while fatigued if I can help it.

Definitely not, that's one of the more annoying conditions in the game. Still, I'm probably just being paranoid. Life here doesn't seem to be nearly as fraught with random encounters as I'm used to.

I haven't met any random encounters here myself. If there's an enemy, it's always confined to its spawn point.

...Well, either way, I guess we'll find out once we try cooking.

For a brief moment I wonder if this is what it's like to have a normal life.

Grocery shopping and going home. That's been completely foreign to me for... I don't know, two, three years?

I started adventuring right after I graduated. [He elbows open the door, then politely holds it.] I had to gain a few levels and get some experience in before I set out to fulfill my dad's Oath of Vengeance.

Oath of Vengeance?

Yes. Apparently it's time-honored tradition for wizards to use Wisdom as their dump stat instead of Charisma. [Between his father and V, well, the two of them didn't seem to have the common sense necessary to come in from the rain they'd just conjured.]

I thought wizards were supposed to be the wise ones.

That's a stereotype, encouraged because the typical image of a wizard is an old man who's gotten a couple of age category increases to his mental stats. Well, I don't know about anyone else, but whatever limited wisdom my dad might have showed in his older years, he's still a man who drunkenly swore a Blood Oath of Vengeance and then never bothered to follow up on it.

I hope the damn thing didn't transfer here with me. [Roy suddenly looks shocked at the possibility, then alarmed.]

What happens if it's transferred?

...That's a good question. It may be possible that the effects of the Oath are waived. There is no lich Xykon here to defeat, so I can't very well even TRY to follow the Oath any more, can I?

But if it is transferred and I'm held to it, then I'll never be allowed into the Celestial Realm after I die. And it will pass on to my children, although let's face it, I'm probably not having kids anyway.

What if the death is only temporary?

Then I'll be stuck standing on the cloud outside of the processing area till my resurrection comes through. But even so, eventually I'll die of old age...
