Third Shot

[Shinon is up to her usual level grinding! But this time she's armed with a new weapon. To fully test it out within the restraints of The World, she can be found in a couple of different situations.]

[Maybe you just spotted that group of monsters and were about to go in for the kill. Or maybe you were just enjoying the scenery - it is a lovely day out in this area, after all.

Either way, that group of monsters? The biggest of them just got a large hole blown into its head, even though there doesn't seem to be anybody nearby to make the attack. Before long, the remaining two follow suit.

Those who are observant may be able to trace the shots to a small figure on a different island, armed with a sniper rifle nearly as long as she is tall. Want to go investigate?]

[Dungeon]

[While she's still carrying that same weapon along with her, she seems to have paused in an empty area for the moment. It's hard to say whether she's just resting, thinking, or both. Now would be a great time to catch her for the curious or talkative, though!]

So... it's an heirloom then?

A legacy! [He hefts the blade proudly.] This is the same blade my grandpa used in his time! With it, he singlehandedly slew the red dragons of Reddragonville and rescued the fair Princess Damsel!

Though I actually assume he was using it two-handed. Greatsword and all.

[...Wow. Those are some... interesting names.]

[Hey, every DM can have an off day.]

So... are you accurate enough with that thing to take down something that your party fighter is mixing it up with?

[He asks that question with a confident grin. He's partied with her. He knows the answer.]

Of course. I wouldn't be much of a sharp shooter if I couldn't.

That was confident pre-battle banter, you don't need to take it seriously.

Then let's go grind some experience!

[tank_sniper]

Alright. But I'll have to switch weapons.

[Which she does, over to a Gun Wave. It's annoying, but now that she knows she can use it in fields like this, she'll need to save it for when she needs it.]

Uh... why?

[Okay, Roy feels kind of guilty. If HE had just gotten back his greatsword, he wouldn't have wanted to trade it back out for a stupid golden sword...]

It takes ammunition, and I can't find enough of it in the town shops to use the Hécate II as much as I like.

You actually track ammunition?

I mean, oh. Is it price, or just shop stock?

[tank_sniper]

Shop stock, for the most part. They can get expensive, but I can't find enough of them to ever completely wipe out my funds.

[greatcleavage]

If you tell me what to look for, I'll buy any I see when I'm in there. Not that I go in often, mind, but any little bit helps?

[She pauses before going through her inventory, taking out one of these.]

They look like this. If you find any, I can pay you back.

Sure, I'd be glad to. I can tell that you're good with that weapon.

[Roy understands entirely, after having repeatedly spent way too long separated from his own blade of choice.]

[She's got her usual cool demeanor, but there's a sincere sense of appreciation behind that one word. She quickly returns the cartridge to her inventory.]

So... should we get moving?

Yes! Were you heading someplace in particular, or just enjoying the view?

...of heads splattering, which I guess has its appeal...

I was just trying to test the Hécate's usability in fields. It doesn't seem to be too restricted in this area, but later I'll have to try it out in a dungeon setting.

Until then, there's no point in leaving this field without clearing it.

[He pauses a minute, frowning, as he considers something.]

I liked it better when we had more plot-relevant encounters. Sometimes just plunging through these fields finishing off the monsters is... I don't know. I know they're all hostile and there's no room for negotiation with them, but it'd be nice if at some point there COULD be.

It might be... but I don't think this game's programming is complex enough to allow for that. Even the human NPCs here are duller than what I'm used to.

Or the DM is just lazy with his NPCs... Still, that whole chest-quest thing we did sure hinted at something going on.

The one where we were marked as offerings, right? It seemed more like a start to a chain of quests.

[greatcleavage]

But there's no way we can have a chain of quests without SOME NPC interaction. And sooner or later something HAS to have a diplomatic option!

Unless they just keep attacking us over and over.

Please don't. Just... leave me my delusional optimism for a few days at least.

[She just gives a small snort before looking aside.]
