It...seemed like a good idea at the time.

[So after getting the "Where is this, who are you, what is going on?" out of his system, Dirk Strider was purposefully and boldly exploring Mac Anu and was...kind of bemused by the fact that the city wasn't done up in purple and black.

...just saying.

He had ended up at the harbor and there he paused in his wan- purposeful exploring, as...you know what's incredibly distracting? Actually only having one self (at least for the time being) that he was aware of. Also the clothes. Also the fact that he still had no idea what the hell was going on, and, more importantly, what was happening with Roxy.

There was a certain irony in him spacing out just as badly as he did when he had multiple selves to juggle, one which was lost on the guy as he was spacing out, brooding.]

[Yeah, this was getting him nowhere. (And shit, the lack of purple really was throwing him off.) That was when he shook his head slightly, turned to the nearest person, and said:]

Hey.

It's very nice! Mac Anu is always peaceful, and although it can get a little hard, I have my brother with me, so it's bearable~!

For the most part, he's chill about his brother being gone, shuffled off of the mortal coil, not someone who he'd be running into in a few posts (in...some form) and just DEAD DEAD DEAD. Dirk had time to adjust to the fact that his brother was gone and they never had the chance to connect in any form and NEVER EVER would. He can't help but feel a little bit envious about how casually she mentioned that, yeah, her brother's here. He won't be knowing that feeling, haha.

It's completely different. It's a quiet little apartment on the ocean. Plenty of space for a guy to just chill with his thoughts. Nothing like this.

[ Ada isn't one to purposefully stomp on feelings - and Dirk probably knows that, but if Ada was aware of Dirk's dead brother .. well, there'd be more than just apologies coming his way - not that she doesn't know the feeling of a sibling being lost forever, completely gone and probably dead (though hers was alive, alive and returned even if he's small, and his is gone).

But in a place like this, where miracles can happen and people can be pulled from different times and timelines, maybe Dirk can find his brother here - and that's what Ada would have also sent his way: a word of hope, at least, although it might never be fulfilled. Alas, she's not aware of Dirk's brother ~~or that she actually talked to him~~ but maybe it's better that way, because no one wants a crying Ada, ever. ]

I see.. [ ...what's an apartment. ] It sounds like a very peaceful place!

Mac Anu is peaceful as well, although it is bustling - I'm sure it's a very good change of pace?

[It's cool. Dave's dead forever barring some sort of resurrection and it's not like Dirk's gonna run into him. What are the chances that not one but two dead older brothers would return, and not only return but be younger than their previously younger sibling? Exactly. Fucking impossible. You just gotta face reality. He's cool.]

I won't lie, though, it's been...dunno, kind of weird seeing all of these people around. Plus this place is more...cheerful than I'm used to. Not as purple.

I wouldn't exactly call it my home, but yeah, this one place I spent time in - Derse - was pretty much just that. Nothin' but purple buildings and black sky.

...nah, more like it was filled with endless horror or some shit like that. I tried not to pay too much attention to it for obvious reasons. Nothing like the skies here.

Ah. It sounds.. unusual? [ oh wait, that potentially sounds rude ] That is, for me! Because, where I live, there are blue skies that have no horror in them..

Oh. Yeah. Sorry. There's two separate places: Derse and Earth. Think of Derse as...actually, it was pretty much a dream world or alternate dimension. That was the place with the black-and-purple motif with skies of endless horror. Earth, where I grew up, was where my apartment was. More like what you're probably used to.

[ the words "alternate dimension" doesn't really make her very pleased; it sounds like the abyss. nonetheless, this is a different world, so maybe it is different. ]

A dream world? [ yes, that sounds a lot more lovely. ] Then, is Derse not your island home? [ ok, she can dig that. ]

Are you alone in Derse as well? [ this is an important question! ]

Nah, my friend Rox is there. One hell of a sleepwalker. I gotta haul her out of the aforementioned horror filled skies all the time. I'd offer to introduce you, but as far as I know she ain't here.

I see. [ but does she actually exist, you said this was a dream world.. ] Perhaps you can introduce me to her someday! I'm sure meeting her here, if not today, is not an impossibility.

Oh hell, more than a few. See...I'll try to keep it simple. The way it works for certain people from my world is this: we get two bodies. There's our real body, the thing that's talking to you right now, and a dreamself. Despite the name, it's as real as this one is.

The way it's supposed to work is that those of us with dreamselves eventually wake up there and you've got two bodies going. When one sleeps the other wakes up. Something like that. I'm an exception in that I'm awake in both places at the same time. All of this is part of a game but trust me when I say you don't wanna know.

My friend, Roxy, she hasn't woken up on Derse yet but her dreamself is one hell of a sleepwalker so I have to haul her back home all the damn time.

I... see. [ kind of following.. ] Well, that definitely means you'll be able to do it, Mister Dirk! There's no one more suited to do it than you!

[ a pause, for a question: ]

Are you awake there, now?

...I'm not sure. Probably.
