[ So Neku's been out around the surrounding areas of the city, trying his best to learn how to fight with these stupid swords, as opposed to the Psychs from back home.

He had always been a quick learner, one to easily adapt, but this was proving to be a challenge. Two swords at once? Trying not to accidentally slice open his arm as he swung them? Attacking some weird monsters and stuff? Yeah, not what he was used to. He may be swearing under his breath as he defeats a few really low level things, working up a sweat in the process. Why wasn't this becoming any easier, damnit?!

Care to join him in said training?

[Joshua isn't joining you in training, Neku, but he's certainly enjoying watching from a close distance. Not too far away, but also not right out in the open where you can clearly see him. A good bag of popcorn, and he'd be set.

... except there's a shadow approaching him from behind. And about the time he turns to take a look, the Swordmanoid is already on him, swinging its sword. He just barely ducks in time to keep his head on him.

There are the sounds of combat from over here, Neku! What do you do~?]

[ Well, that monster was a particular bitch. By the time he's done with his own, he's sweating and breathing heavily, having lost track. He's got a few scratches, and his arms are hurting and sore from all that swinging. But he still hears a monster somewhere, so he's glancing around curiously, wondering if he's about to be ambushed ~~again~~ ... but instead.

..Was that Joshua?

Of course it had to be. Who else had a friggin' hat like that. And oh, was he really fighting one of those things.

Wait a second.

Neku frowned. Those things were notorious for-- Well, shit. ]

What are you doing, idiot? [ Guess who is arriving by your side, aiming for the Swordmanoid as it tries to swing at you again, hoping to clip up near its head to weaken it. ]</small.

[Notorious for being strong against the only type of magic he has right now? Notorious for attacking in numbers? Good thing this one is going solo, but yeah, he's not having too good a run with it right now. He's been interrupted in casting magic a couple of times now.

So, he's not all that opposed when you show up to help. Thankful, really. Even if his HP isn't quite the best now, thanks to all of this.]

You certainly took your time.

[ A small smirk, because oh hey, look who's high and mighty now, Josh? A shrug and he's going to take another swing at the thing, just barely missing its own mighty blow towards them. ]

Didn't know I had to constantly babysit you.

You don't. We're in this together, aren't we~?

[But his tone isn't as teasing as normal. And while you're taking the front lines, he's going to sit back here and take the opportunity to use Rue Kruz on it. Not like it will do much, but. He's not useless.]

Just follow my lead.

[ That's as close to as a yes that you're getting, jerk. That and he's too focused on beating the crap out of this thing that he really doesn't want to talk about partnership or feels right now. Nope. SWING SWING SWING. ]

[Well, good! He would rather not talk about those things, either. Embarrassing, really.

But hey! With the power of teamwork, this thing goes down pretty fast.]

[ You don't say. It's almost reminiscent of the Game. Almost.

When it's defeated, and Neku is positive there isn't anything else spawning back in its place, he turns to glance at you, Josh. Have a very disgruntled expression. ]

The hell were you thinking?

[What was he thinking? That gets a chuckle. He's... sitting on this rock, here, because he's considerably worse for wear right now.]

It was completely out of my hands~

[ Neku doesn't feel any better himself, over here, hands coming to rest on his knees once he puts those stupid swords down for a minute. Just gotta keep breathing... Whoah that was really exhausting. ]

Like hell it was. You're going to get yourself killed like that, Josh!

[This is a somewhat petulant look, Neku.]

I didn't purposely attract it's attention.

...Well, duh, of course you didn't.

[ Now he's sighing. ]

Just be more careful.

[Hm.]

Worried about me, Neku-kun?

[ Shrugging and he's going to survey the field again. ]

If you want to train, you should at least do it in a group.... [ NOT LIKE HE'S ANY BETTER BUT SHHH ]

[He's just watching you. Also rifling through his pack, because he's sure he has something for wounds in here.]

[ It takes him a second to get that you're making fun of him here. He frowns and crosses his arms some, putting the swords away in their holders. ]

Listen. You may be taking this as a joke, but I'm not.

[Why yes, yes he is. How smart of you, Neku. So smart. You win both a gold star and a cookie! The kind with sprinkles.]

Oh no, I'm taking this quite seriously.

[Have a Blade Brandier somewhere close by, also grinding for completely different reasons. He eyes Neku's erratic movements warily. Between the next random monster spawn, he calls to him.]

Are you having difficulty using those, or is something else on your mind?

[ Whoah that was --

He resists asking this stranger if he's reading his mind or something, because well, yeah, something is on his mind, and he hadn't realized he was making it obvious. Damn it. He really was slipping under this stress. Time to buckle down, Neku... ]

Just... not used to this. [ SLASH SLASH SLASH at next spawn. ]

Think of them as an extension of your arm. That's the basis for all forms of swordplay. [He slices up a different low level spawn since he's still at a low level, sob.]

Like you're punching it instead of slicing it open.

[ He never had really thought about it that way, huh. A curious expression and he's going after his own spawn, no worries, bro. And now acting like he's punching and -- oh wow that moves a lot more fluidly than before. ]

You do this often?

I've been fighting for longer than I can remember. [He's slowly chipping away at his spawn's health, curse you low level stats!]

So you must be a pro.

[ A weak chuckle and he's still attacking this damn thing. C: ]

Was. I have not yet mastered maneuvering in this body.

[Well, if it's any consolation to Neku, there's a nearby Adept Rogue who's having a difficult time handling a scythe. His movements are a bit clumsy and he looks like he's bound to drop the weapon at any moment.]

[ Neku notice, and hey man, he's going to try and help you out, if only because the thing he just tried to fight is weak and is fleeing for some odd reason. It's good to help people, right? ]

[Very much appreciated, good sir! Between Neku and Kirino, that monster should go down... well, a bit quicker than if Kirino were trying to fight it alone still.]

[ Thank god, because Neku's arms are getting sore and these monsters just really need to stop re spawning. A quick reprieve is a godsend. ]

You ok?

[ Ada is not actually very good at fighting monsters -- being a Harvest Cleric, and all. She only has one spell, too -- but although she's not a fighting type, the spell is a good one for helping others.

Which is why she casts Repth on Neku, although he might not have needed it. He just .. seems like he needs it, okay!! ]

[ Neku feels it. Maybe not at first, but after a moment, his limbs aren't so stiff, his body isn't aching as badly, and those cuts don't look so bad. So once the weak-level'd monster is defeated, he'll glance down at his hands in curiosity, and a bit of wonder. How had that happened...

Cue him glancing around, finally spotting Ada. Oh... Huh. He's just blinking at you, awkwardly. ]

[ She's rather taken by the success of her spell - magic, at the tip of her hands.. ! Where was this when she wanted to rescue her brother.. ?

At any rate, Ada swells with pride for being able to use her first spell efficiently - and looks the part too, until she notices Neku looking at her. ]

..a.. ah!

[ A.. sheepish smile.. ]

...

H... hello...!

Hey.

[ He returns the smile just as sheepishly, hesitating before heading over to close the gap between them. ]

Uh.... thanks.

[ beaming smile! ]

[ pause ]

I'm Ada Vessalius..! [ curtsy ]

Neku. [ He offers another small smile in return, looking off to the side, almost embarrassed at her politeness. ]

...You okay? No cuts or anything?

[ She nods, energetic although there are like monsters everywhere. ]

I am fine; thank you for asking! Are you all right?

Uhh... yeah I'm fine. Nothing major.

[ He doesn't get how you're so chipper after that but okay...! ]

..Are you out here yourself?

[ she is just a chipper person! ]

Ah .... yes?

[ speaking of, o, oh, where did her brother go.. ]

[he's out in the field for once, but his weapon isn't even drawn, attention instead focused on the scenery. the sound of strife draws his attention, though, and investigating reveals a familiar head of orange hair. so of course he'd wandering over, stopping just far enough away that he's not at risk of aggravating the monsters himself.]

Are you enjoying yourself?

[ Psh. Enjoying? Does this look like enjoyment Kaworu? ...well okay, maybe just a bit. ]

I'm trying to get better. [ He sounds a bit exhausted, which probably betrays the length of time he's been out here, doing this. ]

That is good to know, but not what I was asking.

[some people derive enjoyment from improvement and becoming and being better, after all -- the second child had sounded like a prime example, from what he'd heard. but others do it only out of the need to survive or for recognition or attention, more like shinji. he's rather curious as to which category neku falls into.

Of course I'm not enjoying myself.

[ He sounds a bit out of breath and really, he's trying awfully hard to look impressive...! ]

[The man watches from afar off, as usual for him. It was only chance that he happened to be nearby at this moment. He watches, as perhaps it almost seems that Neku will fall.]

[...No. That potential can't end here.]

Vak Don.

[Fire rains from the sky as an enemy currently engaged with Neku burns up and vanishes.]

[...THAT WAS USEFUL. Neku is in a sort of awe and he whips around, trying to find the cause of all this magic...! ]

The hell...?!
